As of October 26th, 2004, only Danes traveling with a machine readable passport will be admitted into The United States of America. Due to a lot of queries regarding traveling to the United States after 26th October, 2004 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hereby informs you of the following: Denmark has produced machine readable passports since 1997. After 26th October 2004 Danish citizens must be in possession of a machine readable passport if they wish to enter the United States without a visa under the Visa Waiver Programme. This rule also applies for children who will need their own machine readable passport – being listed in their parents’ passport is not enough. Danish citizens who are not in possession of a machine readable passport must apply for a visa before traveling to the US. To read more, click here.

Important Information
People traveling on an American passport may enter Denmark and the other Schengen countries without a visa and stay as a tourist for up to three months. The passport must be valid 3 months beyond the last day of stay in the Schengen countries.
